For more than 12 years now, we have witnessed how It’s Showtime continuously treats the madlang pipol with programs that never fail to make us LOL. Top that off with the hosts’ chemistry and their witty banters, every episode becomes hilariously funny. This high-rating noontime show loves producing segments that celebrate different groups of people – from kids to workers, everyone gets represented on national television.
With almost 100 different segments created in ten seasons, we can’t help but have our favorites that we wish never ended. Here are just eight of the best things they churned out:
1. Kalokalike (2012-2015)
Every day, three contestants would compete by giving their best impersonation of a local or foreign celebrity. They had to give an introduction, a monologue, and a talent performance impersonating the personality. After that, the hosts ask the audience whether the contestant was successful or not by raising cards that say ‘kalokalike’ or ‘kaloka’. There was also a set of hurados to judge the contestants.
Kalokalike had a good three-year run. Grand winners in three seasons were Christopher de Leon, Nicki Minaj, and Vice Ganda’s look-alikes. You can rewatch some of the best kalokalikes in this YouTube compilation.
2. Ansabe?! (2015)
This segment featured Prince Bang Hyun Sung (portrayed by Ryan Bang). He had a deep South Korean accent and the contestants — who would be unable to hear anything — tried to guess the Filipino word he was saying. To win the game, they should guess all five words in under two minutes.
Catch how your favorite celebrities struggled in reading Ryan Bang’s lips in this YouTube compilation. Our president, Nadine Lustre was among the few who guessed all five words!
3. Sine Mo ‘To (2012-2018, 2019)
This sketch comedy segment parodied different topics and trends. It featured originally-written stories and introduced unique characters played by the hosts. Every day, three or more audience members were chosen to participate in the skit. Each of them was given the time and opportunity to act in their designated roles. They received cash prizes after the segment based on their performance.
4. Mini Me (2014-2015, 2018)
The kid version of Kalokalike, this segment featured kids aged ten and under.Kids were introduced by the hosts and they would pose on the stage a la beauty pageant. After that, they would impersonate their chosen celebrity. And after their performance, the contestants would be interviewed so the audience could gauge their wit. The audience would then rate their performance, from ‘good’ to ‘very good’.
Mini Me had three seasons. Grand winners were the mini versions of Michael Jackson, Selena Gomez, and Kim Chiu. Watch mini Selena sing “Love You Like A Love Song” here.
5. Nasaan Ka, Mr. Pastillas? (2015)
Vice Ganda played the role of Madam Bertud who gave relationship advice to then-viral Ms. Pastillas, Angelica Yap. This was a matchmaking segment where she interacted with her admirers from Twitter. They’d either serenade her on air or play a game to impress her. Among eight suitors, she ended up with Richard, who was hailed ‘Mr. Pastillas.’
This segment popularized #WhoGoat — the pieces of advice given by Madam Bertud. It was also It’s Showtime’s way to compete with Eat Bulaga’s groundbreaking AlDub era. Check out the segment’s finale here.
6. Funny One (2015, 2017)
The segment featured aspiring comedians who wanted to showcase their unique quirks to the madlang pipol. They performed their best standup skits to make the audience laugh. The funniest contender in the whole season went home with P1,000,000.
Funny One had two seasons. Ryan Rems Sarita, who was best known for his deadpan jokes that end with “Orayt, rock and roll to the world!” was its first ever grand champion. Donna Cariaga won season two with her drama-comedy approach. She got us with her hilarious moving on process from her ex-boyfriend, James. Watch Ryan and Donna’s winning pieces!
7. PINASikat (2014-2015)
Solos, duos, and groups showcased their unique talents in this classic It’s Showtime competition. There were three daily contenders, whose performances were evaluated by celebrity judges. They’d continue to compete and show what they got until they became the last ones standing after the whole season. Daily winners would take home P100,000 and the season champion won P3,000,000.
The PINASikat Grand Finals were held at Ynares Sports Complex. Spyros, brothers who make epic Chinese yoyo tricks, bagged the first-ever PINASikat championship. Watch their final piece here.
8. TrabaHula (2016-2018)
In this segment, one celebrity player would try to guess which of the four madlang workers is the one they are looking for. For example, the challenge would be “find the plumber”. The celebrity player would analyze the physical traits, skills, and knowledge of the workers to identify the real plumber among them.
This funny segment not only challenged the celebrity player but became an avenue for workers to share their experiences and struggles with the public. Rewatch the best episodes of TrabaHula in this YouTube compilation.
It’s Showtime now airs back-to-back with TV5’s Lunch Out Loud. You can catch it on A2Z, TV5, and Kapamilya channel every afternoon.
