Message of Pope Francis for Incoming PH President Bongbong Marcos
POPE FRANCIS – The Supreme Pontiff of the Catholic Church gave a message to incoming Philippine President Rodrigo Roa Duterte.
The six-year term of the current administration has come to an end. At noon time, president-elect Bongbong Marcos will take his oath as the 17th president of the Republic of the Philippines and will begin his presidential term. The event will be held at the National Museum in Manila.
After getting around 31 million votes in the Elections 2022, Marcos defeated the other nine (9) presidential candidates with a landslide victory. The presidential bid of the Partido Federal ng Pilipinas-standard bearer was supported by several political groups and local government officials.
Marcos Jr.’s presidential candidacy was challenged by several petitions. It ignited the issues surrounding his family’s alleged ill-gotten wealth, the regime of his late father, and his tax evasion charges. All petitions were junked by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) and the Supreme Court.
Today, the inauguration of president-elect Bongbong Marcos is expected to gather his family, Cabinet members, and key officials in the government. Some foreign officials and representatives are also expected to grace the event.
Ahead of the inauguration of president-elect Bongbong Marcos, Pope Francis sent a message to the incoming president of the Philippines. The message was sent by the Supreme Pontiff through Apostolic Nuncio to the Philippines Archbishop Charles John Brown.
Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, Pope Francis sent his message of congratulations and good wishes for incoming Philippine president Bongbong Marcos. He assured him of his prayers and blessings not just for him but also for the Filipinos.
“In assuring you of my prayers that you will be sustained in wisdom and strength, I invoke Almighty God’s blessing of peace and prosperity upon the nation,” the Pope said.
Apostolic Nuncio to the Philippines Archbishop Charles John Brown also reportedly assured Marcos Jr. of the support of the Catholic Church as he takes responsibilities as the Philippine president. He is expected to attend the inauguration set today.
