US President Joe Biden had a conversation with Bongbong Marcos
Presumptive Philippine President Bongbong Marcos received a congratulatory message from United States of America President Joe Biden.
Several prominent politicians in the Philippines have already congratulated Marcos and his running mate Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte days after the May 9 elections. Other countries like China and Japan have also expressed their willingness to have a harmonious relationship with the new administration.
Based on the report from Inquirer, the White House released a statement on May 11 (US time) stating that the US President and the presumptive PH President talked. Biden congratulated Marcos on his election.
Included in the statement was the expectation of the US President to “work with the President-elect to continue strengthening the U.S.-Philippine Alliance, while expanding bilateral cooperation on a wide range of issues, including the fight against COVID-19, addressing the climate crisis, promoting broad-based economic growth, and respect for human rights.”
Reportedly, on Tuesday, Atty. Vic Rodriguez, the spokesperson of Bongbong Marcos, said that the relationship between the US and the Philippines “will get better.” The spokesperson also said that the foreign policy of the son of former President Ferdinand Marcos will be “inclusive”. However, he highlighted that the interest of the Filipino people will still be prioritized.
“What I can tell you, you can expect and look forward to a better relationship with our longtime partner and ally, the United States. The foreign policy of president-elect Bongbong, it would be inclusive,” Marcos Jr’s spokesperson stressed.
Rodriguez also stressed that the interest of the Filipino people and the national interest will never be compromised, especially when it comes to our territorial integrity.
