Sharon Cuneta made this remark about the political career of Isko Moreno
Megastar Sharon Cuneta believes that Manila Mayor Isko Moreno has become a “trapo” or traditional politician over the years.
Just like Sharon, Mayor Isko is also part of the entertainment industry. He is among the celebrities who eventually ventured into the world of politics. For the 2022 elections, the Manila Mayor is aiming for the presidency.
However, he is not getting the full support from the industry where he once belongs. Although there are showbiz personalities who are supporting him, like Lunch Out Loud host Billy Crawford and Mocha Uson, Mayor Isko Moreno also has a handful of critics in the entertainment industry.
Based on the article in Balita, during a recent media conference, Sharon Cuneta also shared her thoughts on the path that Mayor Isko took in his political career. Just recently, the Manila Mayor challenged Vice President Leni Robredo to withdraw from the presidential race. This was echoed by his son young actor Joaquin Domagoso.
Sharon was asked regarding this issue as her husband, Senator Kiko Pangilinan is the running mate of VP Leni. “Napag-withdraw ako pang-grocery,” the actress-singer jokingly said.
With a serious tone, she said that she used to admire Mayor Isko but her admiration was fading over the years. “When he was starting, I had a little pride in me of him dahil sa istorya ng buhay niya,” Sharon said.
However, for her, as time went by, she saw the traits of the Manila Mayor leaning toward being a “trapo.” “But frankly, as the years went by parang nakikita mo yung signs ng pagka-traditional politician,” Sharon Cuneta said.
Based on a published article by Manila Collegian in September last year, traditional politicians are being described as those who “know how to prioritize electoral gains and the best way to get them, according to the old-age playbook, is to maximize visibility even before the campaign period starts. This includes fast-tracking construction projects and building infrastructure that are not intended for the long term but would otherwise remind voters whose names should go on the ballot.”
